Saint Mark's High School Gymnasium Sound System

DAV was awarded the Saint Marks High School Gymnasium Sound and Video System located in Wilmington, DE DAV worked with the President of the School (Tom Fertal) and the superintendent (Martin Booth).

The entire system design was completed by DAV Engineering including full CAD drawings for rigging as well as an 3D EASE model showing the decibel coverage of the system in different configurations prior to installation.

DAV chose Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) speakers and amplifiers to outfit this space.  Twenty-three speakers in all separated into four unique zones depending on the configuration of the bleachers.  Amongst the 23 speakers are four, 4,000 watt subwoofers.  The entire rig is flown above the gymnasium floor in between the steel rafters.  The speakers are white, so they blend into the roof lines making them less obtrusive.

The system is powered by three (3) four channel, 16,000-watt amplifiers, yielding an impressive 48,000 watt sound system.  Two, Crestron control stations are located on opposing walls of the gym enclosed in a steel box with access cover.  Included in the steel box is an input plate for both audio and video as well as an expansion network port for Allen & Heath’s (A&H) SLINK I/O family of digital input boxes.

The audio is controlled by a Q-SYS Core and is directly linked to an A&H Avantis console in the school’s theater control room.  Currently, four (4) Shure ULX wireless microphones are shared between the theater and the gym.  An antenna distribution system with active antennas in both the gym and theater make these microphones work seamlessly in both areas.  The video in the gymnasium is a 256” Dalite diagonal electric screen located at one end of the room and a Panasonic 12,000 lumen laser video projector with an Aurora Multimedia AV over IP endpoint.  A network switch located in the equipment room is directly connected to the network switch in the Theater control room via Single Mode Fiber.
